Language teaching: The Confucius Institute offers an extensive program of Chinese language training and teaching. A wide range of courses are open for the general public and for specific communities, such as preparation courses for study in China, training for Chinese tests (HSK), courses for children, professional development courses, translation, tourism, and business. Teaching will also cover evening courses for local communities, government organizations, schools and cultural agencies. Instructor training for Chinese, as well as the development of quality certification systems and standards for teaching testing and training are other activity areas. The institute is the only center in Ankara that offers the official Chinese Language Exam (HSK).

The Confucius Institute aims at promoting cultural exchange and friendly relations with China through enhancing the understanding of Chinese society and culture. To this end, the Confucius Institute aims showcasing Chinese movies and TV programs, opening courses on Chinese literature, poetry, calligraphy, religion and thought, organizing lectures, seminars, workshops on Chinese culture and society, Chinese cooking, and Tai Chi.

A primary concern of METU faculty is directed towards the promotion of academic, scientific and technological links with China, with Chinese universities, academic institutions and research centers. The Center aims to strengthen and build new possibilities for exchange and collaboration in all fields; particularly in architecture and engineering, arts and social sciences, humanities and education. METU is willing to assume major responsibility in preparing our students for a lifetime engagement with China and to support research that would advance our understanding of Chinese-Turkish relations.

The Confucius Institute aims to contribute to foster Turkish-Chinese economic relations. As with many other countries of the world, Turkey has been following China's fast track economic development closely and with appreciation. Even though our governments and business circles are already working hard to advance bilateral relations, we sincerely believe that it would not suffice to strengthen merely political and economic collaboration. Therefore, the Confucius Institute is an excellent means to overcome this hurdle. First of all, through providing Chinese language courses to meet the needs of business at different levels, the Confucius Institute helps remove the major barrier; that of language. Language fluency can facilitate communication with the customers, suppliers and other stakeholder groups and thus contribute to the growth of bilateral trade and economic relations. In addition, it familiarizes Turkish people in general and businessmen in particular with Chinese culture by organizing courses, lectures, seminars and workshops on Chinese culture and society. In this framework, the Center will contribute towards better understanding of Chinese business culture.
