On April 18, 2025, the "UN Chinese Language Day" and "Embassy Open Day" event, hosted by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Türkiye, was grandly held at the Chinese Embassy in Ankara. Under the theme "Chinese – A Gift Across Time and Space," more than one hundred participants—including teachers, students, and parents from the Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University's cooperative teaching sites (Ankara Atatürk Lisesi, Ayrancı Anadolu Lisesi, Kavaklıdere Ortaokulu, Onur Koleji) as well as Ethnic Chinese language classes—gathered together to experience the unique charm of the Chinese language and to immerse themselves in the profound heritage of Chinese culture.

Ambassador Jiang Xuebin of the People's Republic of China to Türkiye attended the event and delivered a speech. He emphasized that Chinese is not only a tool for communication, but also an important carrier of Chinese civilization. With China's rapid development, the global influence of the Chinese language continues to grow. Ambassador Jiang highly praised Turkish youth for their enthusiasm in learning Chinese and encouraged everyone to deepen their understanding of Chinese culture through language study, thus becoming a bridge for Sino–Turkish friendship.

Yahya Kıraç, Principal of Onur Koleji and representative of secondary school principals in the Ankara region, also delivered an enthusiastic address. He introduced in detail Onur Koleji 's long-standing educational philosophy for offering Chinese courses and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Confucius Institute and the Chinese Embassy for their support in Chinese language education.

The program opened with a presentation on the "Twenty Four Solar Terms." Students from Ankara Atatürk Lisesi and Kavaklıdere Ortaokulu carried their self-designed "Solar Term" boards as they walked into the venue, vividly explaining their understanding of each term and demonstrating their deep appreciation for traditional Chinese culture. This was followed by performances of several well-known Chinese songs—including "Jasmine Flower," "As You Wish," and "Five Thousand Years of China"—whose beautiful melodies and heartfelt renditions created a highly celebratory atmosphere. Additionally, students recited classic Chinese poems such as "Xiao Chi" ("Little Pond"), "Shan Xing" ("A Walk in the Mountains"), and "Mingyue Jishi You" ("When Will the Bright Moon Appear?"), their elegant recitations showcasing the rhythm and poetic charm of the Chinese language. A Chinese language drama adaptation of "Little Red Riding Hood" then highlighted the students' excellent listening, speaking, and acting skills in Chinese, earning thunderous applause from the audience. Interactive games such as "Chinese Character Puzzle" and "Words Bingo" were also set up, combining education with entertainment and creating a relaxed, joyful atmosphere.

The Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University has always been dedicated to promoting Chinese language education and cultural exchange, actively building a bridge for communication and understanding between the peoples of China and Türkiye. This event was not only a showcase of the achievements of Ankara area secondary school students in learning Chinese, but also an important platform for fostering people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Türkiye's two largest private news agencies—Demirören Haber Ajansı (DHA) and İhlas Haber Ajansı (İHA)—as well as several local Ankara media outlets, have reported on this "UN Chinese Language Day" event, further expanding its social impact and public visibility.

This event is an important component of the "UN Chinese Language Day" series organized by the Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University. Next, the Institute will continue to host a series of cultural activities—including the calligraphy competition and the joint school fair among three institutions—aimed at providing students with platforms to showcase their talents and further promoting Sino–Turkish cultural dialogue and exchange.
